Facilities Services Assistant I

About the role

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Custodial and Waste Services, the Facilities Services Assistant I provides maintenance, custodial and office moving services across campus buildings and grounds, supporting event set‑ups and ensuring a safe, clean environment for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Perform minor repairs and renovations to buildings, furniture and equipment.
• Maintain interior and exterior lighting, and conduct minor painting of exterior surfaces.
• Install and remove interior and exterior signage, window frosting and temporary signs.
• Install, replace and record ceiling tiles and flooring products such as carpet tiles.
• Remove snow, apply sand and de‑icing agents, and conduct spring clean‑up of de‑icing material.
• Follow fire, occupational health and safety practices and respond to building emergencies.
• Pressure‑wash building exteriors and campus grounds.
• Clean exterior windows, including high‑level windows using scissor and boom lifts up to 65 ft.
• Install and remove wall fixtures such as whiteboards.

Required profile

• Ability to work under general supervision and follow institutional safety guidelines.
• Physical capability to perform outdoor work in extreme cold and slippery conditions.
• Effective communication with event organizers, facilities staff and the campus community.
