Director, Canada Operations

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is establishing a presence in Canada and seeks an experienced humanitarian leader to drive market entry and build the organization’s footprint. Reporting to the President of IRC Canada, the Director will oversee day‑to‑day operations, external engagement, and strategic execution.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the set‑up and start‑up workplan for IRC Canada, covering legal, finance, people & culture, governance and operations workstreams.
• Manage people, office operations and performance standards in coordination with People & Culture.
• Coordinate cross‑functional activities with IRC global departments (AMU, Finance, Technical Excellence, country and regional teams) to align resources with Canadian priorities.
• Develop and implement a whole‑of‑Canada institutional engagement strategy for public and private donors.
• Collaborate with senior leaders on fundraising, advocacy and communications agendas.
• Report on delivery against key performance indicators to the President.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in the humanitarian or non‑profit sector.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of launching new operations.
• Strong ability to build relationships with donors, partners and government agencies.
• Excellent strategic thinking and execution skills.
