Associate Lawyer – Litigation Team

About the role

A growing Edmonton‑based law firm is expanding its litigation team and seeks a motivated associate lawyer. You will work alongside experienced litigators on civil, commercial and family disputes while gradually taking ownership of your own files in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and assist with a broad range of civil, criminal and family law matters.
• Draft pleadings, affidavits, written submissions and other court materials.
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda.
• Represent clients in chambers applications, mediations, negotiations and court appearances.
• Attend discoveries, hearings and trials.
• Advise clients on litigation strategy and dispute‑resolution options.
• Collaborate with other members of the firm.

Required profile

• Called to the Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta (fully called lawyers only).
• 0‑5 years of post‑call experience; experience in civil litigation, family law or criminal law is a plus.
• Self‑starter who works independently without micromanagement.
• Resourceful, gritty and able to solve problems autonomously.
• Comfortable interacting with a diverse client base.

Required skills

• Strong drafting ability for pleadings, affidavits and court submissions.
• Excellent oral and written advocacy.
• Ability to manage multiple files and meet deadlines.
• Legal research proficiency.
