Advisor – Legal Services and City Clerk

About the role

The Advisor – Legal Services and City Clerk provides professional legal support to the municipal organization, ensuring compliance, sound governance, and effective risk management. Reporting to the Director of Legal Services and City Clerk’s office, the role contributes to the department’s mission by analysing legislation, preparing legal documents, and supporting municipal services.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review contracts, agreements, leases, bylaws, resolutions, public notices, and other legal documents.
• Assist in organizing municipal council meetings, drafting decision‑making files, resolutions, and related documentation.
• Manage litigation files, coordinate with external counsel, and monitor judicial proceedings.
• Process access‑to‑information requests in accordance with the relevant provincial act.
• Analyze and decide on claims submitted to the City under supervision.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law.
• Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec.
• At least one year of relevant experience in municipal law or civil litigation.

Required skills

• Fluency in both French and English, written and spoken.
• Strong knowledge of municipal laws and related procedures.
• Excellent writing, translation, and document drafting abilities.
