Weighmaster (Auxiliary) – City Landfill & Transfer Station

About the role

The City of Vancouver is seeking a Weighmaster (Auxiliary) to operate weigh scales at the Vancouver Landfill in Delta and the Transfer Station in Vancouver. This fast‑paced, high‑volume role involves clerical and cashier duties to support waste‑management operations.

Key responsibilities

• Weigh private, commercial and City vehicles to determine net load weight and record applicable codes for fee collection.
• Identify delivered materials to ensure compliance with site rules and restrictions.
• Process payments, complete electronic non‑payment and manifest forms, and issue receipts.
• Register vehicles, perform end‑of‑shift cash reconciliation and document any issues for the supervisor.
• Work in the scale house independently or with another Weighmaster, and perform related duties as required.

Required profile

• High school graduation (12th grade) with related experience in trucking, cartage, customer service or cashier duties.
• Knowledge of platform‑type weigh scale operation and regulations governing municipal waste disposal.
• Ability to calculate fees, balance cash, tabulate accounts and handle a high volume of work accurately.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interact tactfully with the public.
