Utility Worker – Full‑Time (Regular)

About the role

The Utility Worker provides minor maintenance and repairs to campus buildings and equipment, reporting to the Building Services Manager and collaborating with staff, trade personnel and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Perform minor electrical, plumbing and building system repairs, including troubleshooting equipment such as floor polishers and ride‑on cleaners.
• Replace lamps, bulbs and non‑wiring components, working at heights up to 50 ft using genies or man‑lifts.
• Conduct basic plumbing tasks such as fixing urinals, clearing clogged toilets and performing temporary leak repairs.
• Maintain building elements like flooring, doors, windows, blinds, ceiling tiles, roofs and skylights, including minor sealant and paint work.
• Assist trade staff and contractors, keep repair records, and support event set‑ups and emergency clean‑up.

Required profile

• High school graduation.
• Minimum two years of experience in building or facilities maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid BC driver’s licence and ability to be bondable.
• Willingness to work afternoon/evening and weekend shifts and to work at heights.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Experience operating genies and man‑lifts.
• Basic electrical and plumbing repair knowledge.
• Familiarity with computer work‑order systems.
