Unit Clerk – Inpatient Cancer Care

About the role
The Unit Clerk provides essential administrative support to the inpatient cancer unit at the Cross Cancer Institute. Working under minimal supervision, the clerk ensures smooth communication among health professionals, patients, families, and other departments while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Key responsibilities
- Facilitate the flow of information between clinicians, patients, and support services.
- Perform admission, discharge, and transfer functions for inpatients.
- Answer telephone calls, operate the call‑bell system, and manage unit access.
- Page physicians and assist during unit emergencies.
- Maintain patient records, transcribe physician orders, and schedule tests or treatments.
- Provide front‑desk reception, greet visitors, and direct them appropriately.
