About the role
The Tunnel Shift Engineer provides on‑site technical and operational support for tunnel construction and TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) activities during assigned shifts. The role ensures work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications, construction methods, and schedules.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver engineering support for excavation, segment installation, ground support and logistics during shift hours.
- Monitor daily activities for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and safety plans.
- Prepare accurate shift reports, daily logs, field records and production data.
- Track quantities, progress and KPIs to meet schedule and productivity targets.
- Identify non‑conformances, constructability issues and risks, and propose corrective actions.
- Support quality‑control procedures, inspections and testing.
- Ensure ventilation, ground‑condition monitoring, confined‑space controls and emergency response procedures are followed.
- Coordinate with survey, quality, safety, maintenance and logistics teams.
- Interface with subcontractors and suppliers to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Troubleshoot TBM, mechanical and civil‑construction issues in collaboration with specialist teams.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5–10 years of experience in heavy civil construction, preferably on tunnelling projects.
- Hands‑on experience with TBM operations; slurry‑TBM experience is a strong asset.
- Exposure to underground works such as tunnel excavation, segmental lining, shafts and utilities.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications and field‑engineering practices.
- In‑depth knowledge of construction safety regulations applicable to underground works.
