Truck & Heavy‑Duty Mechanic – Fleet Services

About the role

UBC’s Fleet & Assets department is seeking a skilled Truck and Heavy‑Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of over 500 vehicles and equipment on the Vancouver campus. The role involves performing mechanical work on trucks, vans, construction equipment, and specialized vehicles while ensuring compliance with provincial inspection standards.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and overhaul engines, transmissions and related mechanical components on a variety of heavy‑duty vehicles.
• Perform electrical system troubleshooting and repairs.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and inspections in line with provincial vehicle inspection programs.
• Maintain accurate service records and ensure all work meets safety and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with other mechanics and fleet staff to prioritize workload and respond to urgent service requests.

Required profile

• Completed apprenticeship or equivalent training in heavy‑duty vehicle mechanics.
• Valid commercial driver’s licence (or ability to obtain).
• Ability to work a four‑day weekday schedule with occasional overtime as operational needs dictate.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental sustainability practices.
