Train Conductor – Full‑Time

About the role

CPKC is hiring Train Conductors to join its transnational railroad network across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Conductors work as part of a train crew, handling car switching, train assembly, and safe movement of rail equipment in yards and on the main line. The role requires vigilance, physical stamina, and the ability to work in all weather conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate switching of rail cars, including coupling, uncoupling, and operating lifting devices.
• Interpret and relay signals, radio communications, and other indications that affect train movement.
• Maintain compliance with the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) and related bulletins.
• Provide flag protection and emergency signaling, and operate fire extinguishers and first‑aid equipment when needed.
• Complete required paperwork such as train orders, switch lists, and incident reports.

Required profile

• Physically able to walk up to 10 km per day on uneven ground and lift objects up to 80 lb.
• Willingness to work unscheduled 12‑hour shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays, with a two‑hour call‑in window.
• Strong focus, attention to detail and ability to multitask in a safety‑critical environment.
• Valid driver’s licence, high school diploma (or equivalent), and minimum age of 18.
