About the role
The Landscape Science Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada is seeking a motivated Student Research Assistant to support remote sensing research for the Natural Climate Solutions project. This role focuses on carbon and wetland mapping across Canada, especially in sub‑arctic and arctic regions.
Key responsibilities
- Assess Earth Observation and bioclimatic predictor variables for wetland ecosystem identification.
- Investigate and apply machine‑learning classification and regression methods.
- Design and execute remote‑sensing predictor experiments, including data acquisition, pre‑processing, and storage.
- Develop research protocols for bioclimatic variable testing.
- Script and refine processing workflows in Python and R, and communicate analytical results.
Required profile
- Full‑time student status at an accredited Canadian post‑secondary institution.
- Enrollment in a program that requires research as part of the curriculum.
- Minimum legal working age for the province of Ontario.

What we offer
- Hourly wage ranging from $18.84 to $38.38 (CAD).
- 10‑20 hours per week for a 1‑year term starting Summer 2026, with potential renewal.
- Hands‑on experience in a federal research environment.
