Student Librarian – Office Assistant B

About the role

The Schulich Library at McGill University is seeking a Student Librarian – Office Assistant B to work part‑time on‑site. Under the guidance of a library head and liaison librarians, you will provide reference support both in‑person and virtually to students, faculty, and other library users.

Key responsibilities

• Assist researchers at the Reference Desk in locating, accessing, and using library resources.
• Provide virtual reference services through LibAnswers chat, email, and text messaging.
• Support librarians in delivering workshops and teaching sessions.
• Contribute to special projects such as collection development, LibGuides creation, and exhibits.
• Participate in outreach, orientation activities, and promote library services.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in the MISt program at the School of Information Studies or a graduate student with an MISt degree.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and French (English level #3).
• Reliability, flexibility for shift coverage, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
• Minimum High School Diploma and at least one year of related experience.

Required skills

• Familiarity with library information technology tools, specifically LibAnswers and LibGuides.
• Knowledge of McGill’s digital resources.

What we offer

• 15 hours per week from September 20 2026 to May 1 2027.
• Hourly wage of $22.11 CAD.
