Specialist – Server Support (35 hrs/week)

About the role

The Specialist – Server Support leads the design, maintenance and security of the Halton District School Board’s server and enterprise infrastructure. Reporting to the Network Operations team, the role ensures high‑availability of on‑prem and cloud services while guiding standards and strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

• Provide functional and strategic leadership for the board’s server environment, including physical, virtual and cloud platforms.
• Oversee backups, disaster‑recovery testing, patch management and security monitoring across all servers.
• Lead and mentor the Server Support team and coordinate with Network Operations, Security Operations and other departments.
• Manage identity and access solutions such as Active Directory and Entra ID, and ensure compliance with security policies.
• Plan, execute and document IT projects, controlling scope, schedule and budget while communicating with stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain architectural documentation, standards and playbooks for incident response and zero‑day handling.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in server administration, virtualization and cloud infrastructure.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., ISC2, ISACA, CompTIA, Microsoft Azure Administrator, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Fortinet NSE 4, Project Management).
