Sessional Lecturer – Quantitative Analysis of Social Data

About the role

The Department of Sociology seeks a sessional lecturer to teach SOC222H5F – Quantitative Analysis of Social Data for the Fall 2026 term. The successful candidate will deliver two weekly lecture hours, design course materials, and assess student performance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures on data tables, graphs, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and population inference.
• Develop, administer, and grade assignments, tests, and examinations.
• Calculate and submit final grades in a timely manner.
• Hold regular office hours to support student learning.
• Supervise and coordinate teaching assistants assigned to the course.
• Order and manage required readings and course resources.

Required profile

• PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline, demonstrated through refereed publications.
• Strong academic record and prior experience teaching a comparable quantitative methods course.
• Evidence of teaching excellence and ability to communicate complex statistical concepts clearly.

Required skills

• Proficiency in quantitative data analysis, including descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing.
• Ability to create and interpret data tables, graphs, and statistical reports.
