Sessional Lecturer for Caribbean Societies (CAR225)

About the role
The University of Toronto’s Centre for Caribbean Studies seeks a sessional lecturer to teach CAR225: Caribbean Societies. This interdisciplinary course examines Caribbean sociology from decolonization to contemporary issues, covering colonial encounters, religion, popular consciousness, capitalism, political institutions, and development.
Key responsibilities
- Develop a detailed syllabus and curriculum aligned with course objectives.
- Deliver in‑person lectures and facilitate group discussions.
- Design, administer, and invigilate assignments, tests, and exams.
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Hold regular office hours and meet with students as needed.
- Manage course content, grades, and communications on Quercus, CIS, and Emarks.
- Perform additional pedagogical and administrative duties associated with an undergraduate course.
Required profile
- Master’s or PhD in Literature or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Caribbean sociology and related scholarly literature.
- Experience teaching at the undergraduate level in a university setting.
- Ability to develop engaging curriculum and assess student learning.
