Sessional Lecturer – Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

About the role

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Mississauga seeks a sessional lecturer for the Fall 2026 term to teach an undergraduate course on the ethics of artificial intelligence. The course explores algorithmic bias, explainability, accountability, trust, human‑AI relationships, labour impacts, and value alignment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver in‑person lectures and discussion sessions on AI ethics.
• Develop course materials, assignments, and assessment criteria.
• Provide guidance and feedback to approximately 80 enrolled students.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants and departmental staff.
• Maintain academic standards and adhere to university policies.

Required profile

• PhD in philosophy (or related field) completed or in‑hand.
• Prior experience teaching philosophy courses, preferably at the University of Toronto.
• Strong knowledge of AI ethics topics and related scholarly literature.
• Demonstrated research activity in philosophy or AI ethics is an asset.
