Server / Bartender, Events (Part Time)

About the role

Malaparte, an event space on the 6th floor of TIFF Lightbox in Toronto's Entertainment District, is looking for a Server / Bartender for its events. The role is described as part time, and the person is expected to work evenings, weekends and holidays. The server is an engaging host who knows food, wine and spirits, whether working the floor or behind the bar.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome guests warmly and create an engaging first impression
• Craft high-quality cocktails and beverages with consistency, speed and attention to detail
• Serve food and beverages, including passed canapés, plated dinners and buffet or station service, to O&B standards
• Offer confident recommendations on menu items, cocktails, wine and beer, and share spirits and mixology knowledge
• Take orders accurately, manage tabs and coordinate with the kitchen
• Personalize service for special occasions and handle allergies and dietary needs
• Anticipate guest needs and support the team's flow, especially during peak service
• Collaborate with servers, bartenders, kitchen staff and management
• Help with event setup and breakdown, including tables, linens, glassware and bar stations
• Keep the bar and service areas organized, clean and well stocked, and support inventory counts
• Take on additional tasks as needed

Required profile

• Valid Smart Serve certification
• At least 1 year of serving and/or bartending experience, ideally in events, banquets or high-volume hospitality
• Enrolled in or completed a Hospitality, Food & Beverage and/or Special Events program is an asset
• Legally eligible to work in Canada
• Availability for flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays

Required skills

• Solid cocktail knowledge and ability to prepare classic and signature drinks
• Strong food and wine knowledge, able to describe menu items and pairings
• Guest service, communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to stay composed under pressure and stand for long periods carrying trays and bar supplies
