Senior/Staff ML Onboard Optimization Engineer

About the role

Waabi is a leader in Physical AI, developing autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The company is expanding its onboard compute capabilities and seeks an experienced engineer to drive model optimization for self‑driving systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with autonomy and algorithm engineers to scale safe self‑driving systems using an AI‑first approach.
• Expand the model deployment pipeline to new GPUs and embedded platforms for next‑generation onboard compute.
• Optimize models with frameworks such as TensorRT and modelopt for truck‑mounted inference.
• Develop and benchmark custom CUDA kernels to improve inference performance.
• Profile model runtime and memory to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

Required profile

• MS/PhD or Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years of industry experience in Computer Science, Robotics or related fields.
• Strong coding skills in Python, C++ or Rust.
• Experience with deep‑learning frameworks, especially PyTorch.
• Proficiency in profiling CPU/GPU code using tools such as PyTorch Profiler and NVIDIA Nsight.
• Hands‑on experience with NVIDIA embedded platforms (Jetson, Thor).
• Collaborative, open‑minded team player with a passion for self‑driving technology.
