Senior Survey Technician

About the role

Binnie is seeking a detail‑oriented Survey Technician to join its Geomatics Group in Burnaby. The role focuses on processing and analysing survey data for highway engineering and land‑survey projects across the Lower Mainland and throughout British Columbia. It is a full‑time, office‑based position offering valuable experience and career advancement.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, analyse and process survey data using Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D.
• Interpret and edit field data, notes and sketches to ensure clear understanding of captured information.
• Create 3D surfaces, contours, alignments and cross‑sections.
• Research survey records and land titles to obtain property‑boundary information.
• Produce survey base plans, legal plans, cross‑sections and other drawings from processed data.
• Develop and implement quality‑control procedures and perform QC on survey data and plans.
• Provide complex survey calculations (coordinates, alignments, surfaces, hard‑copy plans) for Surveyors.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to keep projects on schedule and advise on survey methodologies.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Geomatics Engineering Technology or GIS.
• Minimum six years of office experience as a Survey Technician and at least one year of field experience.
• Strong understanding of survey principles, calculations and BC legal surveys.
• Proficient with traverse adjustments, control‑network analysis and GPS data collection procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center.
• Eligible for registration as AScT or C.Tech. with ASTTBC.
