Senior Quantum Engineer

About the role

Q-Block Computing is looking for a Senior Quantum Engineer to lead the design, integration and qualification of quantum hardware subsystems. The role bridges experimental research and field‑deployed systems, ensuring performance, reliability and ruggedness for mission‑critical applications. You will mentor junior engineers and drive productization from prototype to operational capability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering design, integration and qualification of optical, photonic, electronic, control and mechanical subsystems across platform programs.
• Define specifications, plan verification and validation campaigns, analyze failure modes and close engineering issues with documented reasoning.
• Drive productization and design‑for‑reliability efforts, including ruggedization, thermal management, environmental qualification and manufacturing readiness.
• Develop and improve fabrication, assembly, alignment and calibration procedures for precision optical and electronic subsystems.
• Collaborate with scientists and system architects to translate performance requirements into engineering specifications.
• Lead design reviews, establish engineering standards, provide technical mentorship and manage technical risks.

Required profile

• PhD in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in quantum hardware, scientific instrumentation, photonics or precision electronics.
• Proven ownership of subsystem‑level engineering deliverables from specification through test and documentation.
• Hands‑on expertise in at least one area such as optical systems engineering, laser hardware, photonic integration, precision analog electronics or quantum control systems.
• Experience transitioning prototype hardware to robust, field‑ready systems.
