Senior Principal Compiler Engineer

About the role

Huawei Canada is seeking a Senior Principal Compiler Engineer to join its Heterogeneous Compiler Lab in Ottawa. The lab is a recognized contributor to the LLVM Compiler Infrastructure and focuses on innovative compiler technologies for AI, GPU and CPU architectures, supporting a wide range of software‑hardware co‑design projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and test software components that meet business requirements across diverse product lines.
• Analyze and optimise system performance, collaborating on software‑hardware co‑design.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to define project requirements and create development plans for productisation.
• Lead scrum ceremonies, code reviews and project planning while fostering team building.
• Mentor junior developers through training sessions, code reviews and career guidance.
• Research emerging industry trends and propose new technical directions for the team.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience developing large‑scale software, with expertise in C++, C or Java.
• Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following areas: production compilers (LLVM/Clang), language runtimes (JVM), deep‑learning frameworks, GPU driver development, or hardware accelerator programming.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems and processor architecture.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field (advanced degree is a plus).
