Senior Mechanical Inspector

About the role

The Town of Whitby is seeking a Senior Mechanical Inspector to join its Building Services team. This hybrid position supports the community’s growth by ensuring HVAC and plumbing systems comply with the Ontario Building Code and municipal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform legislated HVAC and plumbing inspections for Part 3 & 9 buildings under the Ontario Building Code within required timelines.
• Review building plans for compliance with Part 7 and building services requirements, and update AMANDA inspection records daily.
• Liaise with inspection staff, fire prevention officers, and external consultants on code interpretations and permit status.
• Enforce the OBC, issue orders, collect evidence, and represent the town in court when necessary.
• Provide training and guidance to Building Division staff and perform site services reviews for private roads.

Required profile

• Licensed HVAC tradesperson, licensed plumber, or Mechanical Designer with a C.E.T. designation.
• Minimum five years of experience in plumbing, HVAC, or a related field, including apprenticeship.
• Valid G‑class driver’s licence and ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication, customer service, and conflict‑resolution skills.

Required skills

• Interpretation of the Ontario Building Code and related zoning regulations.
