Senior Building Inspector

About the role

The Senior Building Inspector reports to the Supervisor of Building Inspections and conducts legislated building inspections in accordance with the Ontario Building Code, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and town by‑laws.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct inspections for Part 9 and Part 3 buildings, including footing, back‑fill, framing, insulation, and final inspections.
• Coordinate approvals with other departments and external agencies, and investigate unsafe conditions such as fire, explosions, wind or vehicular damage.
• Issue compliance orders under the Building Act, review drawings with site supervisors, and consult engineers and architects to resolve on‑site issues.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, assist clients with code inquiries, and assess building‑code complaints.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Architecture, Architectural/Engineering Technology or related field.
• Minimum three years of directly related experience with the Ontario Building Code (Parts 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and Alternative Solutions).
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities; able to build positive relationships with internal and external partners.
• Valid Ontario Class "G" driver’s licence and eligibility for the Town’s Safe Driver Program.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
• Experience with AMANDA inspection software.
• Working at Heights certification.
