Senior Litigation Lawyer – Surety and Trade Credit

About the role

Intact is seeking a Senior Litigation Lawyer specializing in Surety and Trade Credit to partner with Claims and Underwriting teams. You will manage complex disputes, protect the company’s recovery position, and contribute to a high‑performing legal affairs group.

Key responsibilities

• Join a specialized legal team and handle a volume of complex surety (bond claims) and trade credit (subrogation) files.
• Develop risk‑based prioritisation strategies for recovery matters.
• Analyse and structure issues involving securities (PPSA, movable hypothecs, assignment of receivables), secured creditors, subordination agreements and priority disputes.
• Represent Intact before Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Appeal, administrative tribunals, as well as in mediation and arbitration.
• Intervene in insolvency, restructuring or arrangement proceedings (CCAA/BIA), interfacing with trustees, monitors, secured creditors and financial institutions.
• Provide legal analysis and advice to underwriting teams on preliminary matters.

Required profile

• Extensive litigation experience, particularly in surety, trade credit and subrogation matters.
• Proven ability to represent a corporation in court, mediation and arbitration.
• Strong knowledge of securities law (PPSA, movable hypothecs, assignment of receivables) and priority disputes.
• Experience with insolvency and restructuring proceedings (CCAA/BIA).
• Excellent analytical and advisory skills for underwriting support.
