Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Fig, a fast‑growing Canadian fintech, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide hands‑on legal advice across commercial, privacy, product, operational and regulatory matters, supporting the company’s rapid expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted legal advisor to product, technology, marketing, and operations teams.
• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including SaaS, vendor, partnership and NDA contracts.
• Provide practical guidance on consumer‑lending initiatives, disclosures, customer communications and digital financial services.
• Advise on privacy and data‑protection issues, covering consent, retention, vendor arrangements and privacy‑by‑design.
• Support responsible use of AI and emerging technologies, addressing legal, privacy, governance and risk considerations.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, policies and practical guidance to enable scalable business operations.

Required profile

• 5‑8 years of legal experience, preferably in financial services, fintech, banking, lending, payments, insurance or another regulated industry.
• Strong commercial contracting experience with the ability to draft, negotiate and close agreements independently.
• Comfort working with regulated products and translating legal requirements into clear business guidance.
• Experience advising on privacy, data, technology or vendor matters is a plus.
