About the role
The Senior Human Resources Assistant will work in the Human Resources Unit of the Administration and Operational Support Section at the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity in Montreal. Reporting to the Administrative Officer and under the guidance of the Head of the Administration Division, the incumbent supports a wide range of HR functions for staff in General Service and related categories.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in recruitment processes, including screening applications, preparing candidate profiles, conducting preliminary interviews and coordinating competitive examinations.
- Administer staff entitlements by reviewing service conditions, processing travel and payment requests, and monitoring benefits exceptions.
- Support staff development through career‑development programmes, training workshops and exit interviews.
- Assist with classification requests, provide guidance on classification procedures and prepare related documentation.
- Maintain HR databases, compile statistical reports, conduct research on policy precedents and prepare information circulars.
Required profile
- High school diploma required; relevant training in human resources, business administration, finance or public administration is desirable.
- Minimum ten years of progressive HR or administrative experience (reduced to eight years with a university degree). International organization experience and familiarity with UN staff rules are preferred.
- Fluency in English and French at UN Level II (reading, writing, listening) and Level I (speaking) is required.

- Proficiency with ERP systems for processing personnel transactions.
- Data analytics and statistical reporting capabilities.
- Budget preparation and financial monitoring within HR programmes.
