Senior Engineer – Plant Maintenance

About the role

The Senior Engineer provides project management, technical expertise, and engineering input for the planning, design, construction, and operation of solid waste management infrastructure and equipment. Reporting to the Facilities & Engineering Management (F & EM) Manager, the role supports city‑wide initiatives and ensures technical accuracy across projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review, and implement detailed plans and policies for program requirements.
• Lead multi‑disciplinary project teams, supervising professional engineers and technical staff.
• Manage project budgets, control expenditures, and participate in capital and operational budget preparation.
• Conduct research on industry developments, legislation, and municipal policies.
• Provide technical reviews of development applications to protect existing infrastructure.
• Oversee contract issues, compliance programs, by‑law enforcement, and risk management.
• Represent the division at meetings with the public, stakeholders, and councilors.

Required profile

• Advanced engineering knowledge with experience in municipal infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex, cost‑sharing arrangements.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, capital works programs, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder and council interaction.
