Senior Backend Developer

About the role

Sangoma is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain high‑availability cloud services that power its UCaaS suite. This fully remote position serves customers across the United States, specifically targeting candidates in the Eastern or Central time zones.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, distributed APIs and backend services with a strong focus on security and reliability.
• Maintain and improve the Sangoma Meet Cloud platform to meet SLA targets and 24/7 availability.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers and cross‑functional teams to deliver seamless API integrations.
• Troubleshoot production issues, ensuring optimal performance and user experience.
• Participate in architectural discussions and help shape the technology roadmap.
• Mentor junior developers and promote a culture of continuous learning.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and quick learning of new technologies.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Rust and Nix.
• Experience with Git and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• Hands‑on experience building Linux‑based services in cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, WebSockets, and HTTPS.
• Familiarity with relational databases.
• Ability to work with services written in Node.js and Java.
