Senior Applied Scientist – Autonomous Evaluation

About the role

Waabi is building the next generation of autonomous driving technology using a revolutionary Physical AI approach. The team is looking for a highly experienced Applied Data Scientist to shape the evaluation ecosystem that validates the Waabi Driver across simulation, track, and public road testing. This senior technical role sits at the intersection of Evaluation, Systems & Safety, and Autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Design scalable production frameworks for autonomy evaluation, applying statistically rigorous methodologies to ensure comprehensive Operational Design Domain coverage.
• Develop and implement methods to measure and monitor performance, fidelity, and reliability of the evaluation infrastructure.
• Prototype deep‑dive analyses, write production‑quality evaluation code, and build tools and dashboards for technical and executive leadership.
• Partner with Safety and Autonomy teams to ensure automated reporting captures system intent and requirements.
• Create advanced analytical models that correlate simulation performance with real‑world outcomes, quantifying the predictive power of evaluation metrics.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional experience in applied data science, advanced analytics, or machine learning.
• MS/PhD or equivalent in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or Robotics.
• Strong command of Python and SQL for data analysis and prototyping.
• Expertise in statistical methods, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, sampling methodologies, and statistical modeling.
• Experience collaborating with cross‑functional partners and stakeholders.
• Open‑minded, collaborative team player with a passion for self‑driving technologies.
