Second Engineer – Floatel Vessel

About the role

The Second Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems on the floatel vessel operating alongside Squamish, BC. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, the role ensures safe and efficient functioning of the vessel’s machinery and equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform regular maintenance, inspection and repair of all machinery and equipment, adhering to schedules to minimize downtime.
• Operate and monitor propulsion, power generation, HVAC, plumbing and auxiliary systems, optimizing fuel consumption.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and manage spare‑parts inventory.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies, implementing corrective actions promptly.
• Enforce safety protocols, conduct inspections and implement preventive maintenance programs.

Required profile

• STCW Reg. III/2 certification for second engineer on vessels with ≥3,000 kW propulsion power.
• Minimum 3‑5 years sea service as 2nd Engineer on Ro‑Ro or passenger ships of ≥3,000 gt.
• Valid certifications in survival craft, fire fighting, medical first aid, security, crisis management and crowd management.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Competence in equipment maintenance and repair.
