Scraper Operator – Heavy Construction

About the role

Sureway Construction is seeking a reliable Scraper Operator to join its heavy‑construction team in the Edmonton area. The role involves operating a push‑pull and auger‑equipped scraper to shape and grade earthworks on civil projects.

Key responsibilities

• Operate scraper controls to adjust blade and bowl height for precise terrain shaping.
• Make successive passes over the work surface to raise or lower ground to the specified grade, following grade stakes or hand signals.
• Maintain proper gear selection and speed for safe operation under varying site conditions.
• Use the cushion hitch correctly while moving the scraper.
• Interpret roadway plans, drawings, and grading markings to achieve required elevations.
• Promote and adhere to the company’s safety program, encouraging a safety‑first culture among all personnel.

Required profile

• Hard‑working, reliable and flexible with schedule.
• Physically capable of working in demanding outdoor conditions.
• Personal reliable vehicle and CSA‑approved steel‑toed boots with 6‑inch ankle support.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience operating a scraper (push‑pull & auger).
• Successful completion of pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing and company orientation.

Required skills

• Scraper operation (push‑pull & auger) and control of blade/bowl.
• Reading grade stakes, hand signals and interpreting grading plans.
• Use of cushion hitch and proper gear selection.
