Scientist, Biomolecular Interactions (12-Month Contract)

About the role

Amgen is hiring a Scientist, Biomolecular Interactions for a 12-month contract in Burnaby, BC, reporting to the Principal Scientist. You will join the In Vitro Pharmacology group's affinity team, which designs and runs high-throughput and custom biophysical screening assays to rank and characterize large-molecule therapeutic programs. The goal is to discover and characterize molecules that could help patients.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, optimize and implement biophysical screening assays for novel therapeutic candidates under the guidance of the lead Scientist.
• Run routine and novel affinity/kinetic characterization screens on Carterra, Octet, Biacore and KinExA platforms, including custom assays and assay development.
• Perform instrument housekeeping, reagent ordering and troubleshooting.
• Summarize and report data (ELN, Screener, Benchling, slide decks) and document work timely.

Required profile

• Basic qualification: doctorate; or master's degree with 3 years of related experience; or bachelor's degree with 5 years of directly related experience.
• Collaborative team player with strong analytical mindset, scientific curiosity and a can-do attitude.

Required skills

• Preferred: deep understanding of molecular binding interaction theory (SPR, BLI) and hands-on experience with Biacore (ideally 1K/8K series) and KinExA.
• Preferred: protein chemistry or general biochemistry background; antibody experience desired.
• Preferred: mammalian cell culture (CHO, HEK) and transfection; on-cell affinity assays or FACS experience preferred.
• Preferred: data analysis with PRISM, Codex and custom R/Python; DoE work and data interpretation.
