Roadway Design Engineer – Transportation Projects

About the role

Wood Rodgers is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer to join its Transportation Department in Sacramento. You will work on a variety of projects, from highways and local roads to bike trails and drainage facilities, within a collaborative, fun‑focused team.

Key responsibilities

• Design roadway system improvements and related transportation structures under senior engineer guidance.
• Prepare plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
• Perform technical studies and produce project reports and other technical documents.
• Develop preliminary concepts and layout alternatives.
• Oversee and mentor entry‑level staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum 5 years of experience on roadway design projects.
• Ability to work independently on project tasks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.
• Familiarity with Caltrans Highway Design Manual.
• Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
