Research Operations Manager

About the role

The Faculty of Medicine at UBC is seeking a Research Operations Manager to lead the Office of Research. This senior position provides strategic and operational guidance, ensuring efficient administration of research activities and supporting faculty members in their research endeavors.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Faculty of Medicine’s Research Office.
• Coordinate responses to complex requests and prepare reports/briefs for senior leadership.
• Manage and develop staff responsible for research support functions.
• Provide guidance on research policy, regulatory guidelines, and funding policies at local, provincial, and federal levels.
• Collaborate with senior administrators across research, education, departments, schools, centres, and institutes.
• Lead implementation of strategic plan initiatives and objectives.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in research administration within a university or similar research environment.
• Strong knowledge of research policies, procedures, and funding mechanisms.
• Proven ability to manage teams and coordinate multi‑disciplinary initiatives.
• Excellent communication and report‑writing skills for senior stakeholders.

Required skills

• Knowledge of research regulatory frameworks and funding policies.
• Experience with strategic planning and operational execution.
• Ability to analyze complex information and make informed recommendations.
