About the role

The Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI) at the University of British Columbia is seeking a part‑time Research, Communications & Events Assistant. This 20% FTE term position (7.5 hours per week) runs until 31 August 2026 and supports research coordination, knowledge dissemination, and event management.

Key responsibilities

  • Onboard and train undergraduate and graduate student employees who assist with research and administrative tasks.
  • Manage CSDI’s social‑media accounts and online presence, creating and posting content.
  • Assist CSDI leadership with project‑management activities, monitoring timelines and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement work plans for special initiatives, assigning research tasks to team members.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of research and policy reports, including editing and distribution of written media.
  • Conduct literature reviews and case‑studies for the Climate Disinformation project and produce written summaries.
  • Research the regulation of social media in elections in the Philippines and other countries, delivering written reports.

Required profile

  • Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student with strong interest in public policy research.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to produce clear reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, post‑doctoral fellows, and student staff.
  • Organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

  • Social‑media management (e.g., posting, content creation).
  • Research methods including literature review and case‑study analysis.
  • Report writing and editing.
