Research Associate – Ultrasound Devices

About the role

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia seeks a full‑time Research Associate to join Professor Robert Rohling’s laboratory. The role focuses on the design, fabrication and testing of novel ultrasound devices for medical and non‑medical applications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers and their associated electronics.
• Model transducers using finite‑element analysis and acoustic simulation software.
• Establish design criteria with end‑users and optimise performance to meet requirements.
• Fabricate complete ultrasound devices and test them in calibrated water baths and tissue‑mimicking materials.
• Acquire acoustic data and develop algorithms for data analysis.
• Mentor students, prepare documentation, publish results and present to stakeholders.
• Assist with grant proposals and reporting.

Required profile

• Doctorate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
• At least three years of post‑doctoral research experience in a relevant discipline.
• Strong publication record with multiple first‑author and co‑authored papers.

What we offer

• Starting salary of $95,000 per year.
• One‑year fixed‑term appointment with possibility of extension.
