About the role

The School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia seeks a full‑time Research Associate to advance stem cell biology, tissue regeneration and degeneration research. This fixed‑term position lasts one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise animal models of skeletal and cardiac muscle disease.
  • Design, execute, and analyse experiments using pluripotent stem cells, organoid systems, and multi‑omics approaches.
  • Collaborate with internal and external laboratories, integrating genetics, infection models, genomics and immunology.
  • Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Mentor and supervise lab personnel, fostering a collaborative research environment.

Required profile

  • Demonstrated experience in stem cell biology, tissue regeneration, or related biomedical research.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong scientific communication skills for publishing and presenting results.

  • Stem cell culture and pluripotent stem cell techniques.
  • Organoid technology.
  • Animal model development and handling.
  • Genomics and multi‑omics data generation.
  • Immunology assay implementation.
