Research Assistant/Technician – Molecular Tools & Enzyme Characterization

About the role

The de Boer Lab within the School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC seeks a Research Assistant/Technician to develop molecular tools and high‑throughput enzyme characterization methods. You will work on creating DNA libraries, optimizing synthesis protocols, and testing gene function using innovative pooled assays.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and apply pooled gene synthesis and screening approaches, including DropSynth library construction.
• Design and fabricate functionalized hydrogel microbeads for parallel enzymatic activity assays.
• Optimize and scale up DNA synthesis reactions for high‑throughput workflows.
• Perform molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, and DNA purification.
• Assist lab members with experimental design, troubleshooting, and data collection.

Required profile

• Experience with DNA synthesis, cloning, and related molecular biology protocols.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced research environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
