Research Assistant – Gynecologic Tumor Bank

About the role
The OVCARE program at UBC is seeking a Research Assistant to lead day‑to‑day operations of its Gynecologic Tumor Bank. You will support cutting‑edge gynecologic cancer research by managing biospecimen processing, storage, and distribution within a collaborative, fast‑paced laboratory environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead wet‑lab activities of the biobank, coordinating with the Clinical Research Manager and Data Manager.
- Process biological tissues, fluids, and study‑specific samples for long‑term storage.
- Maintain accurate biospecimen inventory and data entry using the biobank’s online database.
- Fulfill internal and external researcher requests for specimens, ensuring compliance with approved procedures.
- Identify workflow improvements and implement changes with the team.
- Oversee upkeep of shared lab spaces and routine equipment maintenance.
Required profile
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented problem solver.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast‑moving research environment.
- Strong organizational skills and commitment to high‑quality data management.
Required skills
- Wet‑lab techniques for tissue processing.
- Biospecimen inventory management using database platforms.
