Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Casual/Relief

About the role

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will provide nursing care and clinical support to individuals residing in treatment, transitional and withdrawal management beds within the HART Hub. Working under the direction of an RN, the RPN will use trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented and harm‑reduction approaches to support client stabilization and safe community transitions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care to clients with mental health and/or substance‑use challenges in treatment, transitional and withdrawal settings.
• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, health screenings and ongoing monitoring of physical and mental health status.
• Administer oral, injectable and PRN medications in accordance with orders and respond to medical or psychiatric emergencies.
• Develop and implement integrated care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Document client interactions promptly and participate in client rounds to ensure seamless transitions.

Required profile

• Registered Practical Nursing diploma or degree with at least two years of mental‑health experience.
• Valid license with the College of Nurses of Ontario and membership in the Registered Practical Nurses Association.
• Current First Aid/CPR and Basic Life Support certification.
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and psychotropic medication management.

• Proficiency with MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) systems
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects
• Understanding of relevant Ontario health legislation
