About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to support the operation and maintenance of its Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS) mechanical, HVAC, and refrigeration systems. This leave‑replacement position ensures equipment runs efficiently, downtime is minimized, and safety standards are upheld.

Key responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical failures on refrigeration and air‑conditioning equipment.
  • Install, commission, and test new HVAC machinery such as heat pumps and air conditioners.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on all HVAC and refrigeration assets.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and repair data‑center cooling, environmental chambers, coolers, freezers, and related lab equipment.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and operating manuals to guide installations and repairs.
  • Communicate with customers and trade groups to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Follow all safety, regulatory, and environmental procedures.

Required profile

  • Experience working with HVAC, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
  • Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with internal customers and trade partners.
