Public Service & Collections Maintenance Assistant

About the role

The Koerner Library at UBC seeks a dedicated Public Service & Collections Maintenance Assistant to deliver senior‑level support at public service points and oversee collection maintenance activities. This role ensures smooth circulation, equipment upkeep, and a safe environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Provide complex public service support including circulation, microform handling, equipment maintenance, safety and security, and directional assistance.
• Oversee daily operations of the Sorting/Book Bin and Stacks areas, coordinating workflow and delegating tasks with another Library Assistant.
• Act as a point of contact for Collections Maintenance student assistants and supervise evening junior Library Assistants.
• Assist the Public Service Supervisor with special projects and administrative duties.
• Train and mentor junior staff, ensuring compliance with library policies and safety standards.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently under the direction of the Manager and Public Service Supervisor.
• Strong collaborative skills to work with librarians, library assistants, and external stakeholders.
• Experience supervising or coordinating junior staff and student assistants.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation when interacting directly with the public.
