About the role
Gates is seeking a hands‑on Prototype Engineering Specialist to support the development of small‑run prototype assemblies for belt tensioners, idlers, e‑mobility transmissions, and electric water pumps. The role combines coordination of prototype builds, functional testing, and logistics management to ensure timely delivery and quality.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee the build of prototype assemblies with product engineers, prototype builder, and toolroom.
- Conduct functional and performance testing, record results, and provide feedback to engineering.
- Handle packaging, labeling, and shipment of prototypes to test facilities and customers.
- Communicate prototype status, availability, and delivery timelines to customers.
- Arrange transportation and logistics, ensuring proper documentation.
- Manage raw material, consumable, and tooling flow for prototype and fixture work.
- Coordinate outbound shipments to secondary suppliers for heat treat, coating, machining, etc.
- Track external supplier turnaround times and maintain inventory tracking systems.
Required profile
- 1‑3 years of relevant experience.
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical assembly, machining, fabrication, or testing.
