Project Manager – Development Engineering

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Project Manager for Development Engineering to lead the review and approval of development applications and related infrastructure designs. Reporting to the Manager, Development Engineering, you will ensure projects meet municipal and provincial standards while supporting the city’s vision of being the best place to raise a child and age successfully.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate engineering review, coordination and approval of development applications such as UHOPA, ZBA, subdivision plans, site plans and servicing studies.
• Prepare Conditions of Approval and oversee their clearance for municipal and private servicing.
• Develop and present engineering policy, operational reports, and council documentation.
• Liaise with developers, consultants, and external agencies (e.g., Conservation Authorities, MTO, MOE) on design and construction matters.
• Manage multiple projects from initial stage through construction, mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.

Required profile

• University degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• Progressive experience in land use planning, development control, stormwater management and related environmental matters.
• Strong knowledge of the Planning Act, Municipal Act, and relevant provincial statutes, regulations and by‑laws.
• Ability to work effectively with elected officials, government representatives, internal staff and the public.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Access and Excel.
• Class "G" driver’s licence (vehicle provided for job duties).
