Project Engineer - MSD (GTA Manufacturing)
Trevor Frances Recruitment · Toronto
Job description
About the role
A vertically integrated Canadian manufacturer of components for bedding, home furnishing and industrial markets is looking for a highly mobile, hands-on Project Engineer to lead a new corporate safety initiative focused on eliminating Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) hazards and repetitive motion injuries. The role is not desk-based: you will act as the roaming technical expert across the company's core Greater Toronto Area manufacturing plants, working with the Health & Safety (EHS) team to turn injury data and ergonomic audits into physical changes on the production floor.
Key responsibilities
- Own and execute engineering projects from concept to commissioning across the GTA plant network to reduce strains, awkward postures and heavy-lifting risks.
- Spend significant time on active production floors auditing layouts, collaborating with plant supervisors and managing project timelines.
- Partner with Health & Safety to analyze injury logs, find mechanical or layout root causes and build engineered interventions.
- Design, modify and implement workstation upgrades, conveyor re-routes, mechanical lifting assists and custom jigs using CAD software.
- Define technical specifications, source equipment, manage localized project budgets and coordinate third-party trades during plant installations.
- Ensure all fixes undergo pre-start health and safety reviews and operator validation before going live on production lines.
- Maintain milestone schedules across all sites and report progress to senior operations leadership.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- 3-5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Field Engineer in a high-volume industrial plant.
- Valid Ontario G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel between North York, Brampton and Vaughan.
- Strong foundation in MSD hazard mapping and human biomechanics in heavy material handling or assembly environments.
- Proven ability to work with shop floor operators, maintenance staff and contractors on mechanical fixes.
Required skills
- High proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for line modifications and retrofits.
- Ergonomic literacy and hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
What we offer
- Competitive annual base salary matching industrial project experience.
- Structured mileage and travel reimbursement for inter-plant travel.
- Extended health, vision and dental benefits, life and disability insurance options, and group RRSP matching.
- Secure on-site parking at all GTA facilities.
