Program Area Leader – Recreation

About the role

BGC Okanagan is seeking a part‑time Program Area Leader to oversee recreation programs for children, youth and families at the Lake Country site. The role involves planning, delivering and evaluating activities that enrich the community.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and implement recreational, social, and educational activities for the assigned program.
• Work collaboratively with Activity Leaders to deliver programs and encourage participant involvement.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensuring facilities, equipment, policies and licensing requirements are met.
• Recommend program development, policy changes and evaluate program effectiveness.
• Promote the program through promotional materials and community events.
• Liaise with community service providers and professionals to coordinate services and referrals.
• Maintain records, statistics and produce required reports.

Required profile

• Diploma, certificate or relevant experience working with children/youth in recreation, education or social services.
• Completion of at least 20 hours of coursework covering child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition for licensed programs.
• Minimum one year of recent related experience.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (willingness to obtain Class 4) and First Aid certification (Food Safe or willingness to obtain).
• Successful completion of agency screening, including a criminal record check.
• Ability to work the scheduled hours (20 hrs/week, evenings and occasional Saturdays).
