About the role
Q-Block Computing Research seeks a Principal Quantum Scientist to define and lead its long‑range scientific program. The role will shape frontier experimental and theoretical work in quantum information science, AMO physics, quantum metrology and related foundational domains, operating within a well‑funded engineering environment in Ottawa.
Key responsibilities
- Define and lead the long‑range scientific program, including agendas in quantum computation, sensing, metrology and communication.
- Serve as a senior scientific voice, setting standards for experimental rigor and theoretical depth across the company.
- Lead flagship research programs such as neutral‑atom quantum systems, fault‑tolerant architectures and new quantum‑enabled instruments.
- Mentor and develop scientific staff, fostering a culture of intellectual honesty and patient ambition.
- Connect fundamental research to technology development programs (PolarisQ, AllanQ, LuciaQ) and build collaborations with universities and national labs.
- Represent Q‑Block Computing Research externally through publications, conferences and advisory roles.
Required profile
- PhD in Physics, Applied Physics or a closely related field with a focus on experimental or theoretical quantum physics.
- Outstanding research record with original contributions of recognized significance.
- At least 10 years of substantive quantum physics research experience, including independent leadership as a principal investigator or senior staff scientist.
- Proven ability to define multi‑year research programs, manage scientific uncertainty and build scientific teams.
- Demonstrated intellectual honesty, scientific humility and commitment to long‑term fundamental questions.
