Presiding Election Official for 2026 Local & School Election

About the role

The City of Richmond is seeking a Presiding Election Official (PEO) to lead the conduct of voting at a designated polling place for the 2026 General Local and School Election. This temporary, on‑site position ensures that election procedures are followed accurately and that voters receive the support they need.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee voting place operations to ensure compliance with the Local Government Act and election rules.
• Maintain hourly communication with Election Headquarters throughout Election Day(s).
• Provide direction, supervision, and support to all election staff, including Youth at the Booth personnel.
• Administer oaths to election officials and supervise the setup of computers, voting booths, signage, and supplies.
• Assemble the vote‑counting unit/ballot box, perform opening checks, and supervise ballot handling while preserving secrecy.
• Assist electors, verify registration documentation and identification, and ensure accurate completion of all paperwork.
• Coordinate with scrutineers and media as required.
• Transport and set up election equipment the day before voting, in collaboration with two other staff members.
• Supervise the closing procedures for the voting place and vote‑counting unit.

Required profile

• Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing a small team.
• Prior participation in an election process or similar civic event.
