Power‑Tong Operator – Drilling & Well Services

About the role

The Power‑Tong Operator works on drilling rigs and well‑service trucks, handling pipe and drill‑stem operations from the rig derrick. This onsite position is based in a rural area and requires physical stamina and a safety‑first mindset.

Key responsibilities

• Align and manipulate sections of pipe or drill stem from the platform on the rig derrick.
• Drive the well‑services truck to the well site and supervise daily activities of floorhands, labourers and helpers.
• Take samples, attach pumps and hoses to the wellhead, and operate hydraulic pumping systems.
• Read gauges to interpret conditions and adjust pumping procedures accordingly.
• Use specialized equipment to locate buried pipelines and other utilities for seismic exploration and drilling.
• Write basic daily progress reports.

Required profile

• Secondary (high school) graduation certificate.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Standard First Aid Certificate.
• Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Awareness Certificate.
• Physical ability to handle heavy loads and perform demanding manual work.

Required skills

• Pipe alignment and drill‑stem manipulation.
• Truck driving for well‑service transport.
• Hydraulic pump operation.
• Gauge reading and interpretation.
• Use of pipeline‑location equipment.
• Sample collection.
