Job description
About the role
The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University seeks a post‑doctoral scholar to develop reduced yet realistic models of cumulus life cycles. The work will support cumulus parameterization and machine‑learning algorithms for short‑term convective hazard prediction, using observational data and high‑resolution simulations.
Key responsibilities
- Use large‑eddy simulations and observational datasets to build a quantitative conceptual understanding of the factors controlling cumulus life cycles.
- Develop and critically evaluate new physical models for cumulus life cycles based on these insights.
- Publish research findings in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a closely related field.
- Experience studying clouds and cumulus convection, with strong knowledge of cloud microphysics and turbulence.
- Demonstrated scientific productivity through journal articles and conference presentations.
- Within five years of receiving the Ph.D. at the time of appointment.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
Required skills
- Proficiency in scientific visualization and data analysis using Python.
- Proficiency in scientific visualization and data analysis using Matlab.
